Baltic Wedding Contest

A small victory on Baltic scale - in the photo contest "Baltic Photo Contest Wedding 2009", which took place in Tallinn in 2010. I received the title "The Best Photograph of Latvia" or the best photo from Latvia.

Photo Contest

Weddings are one of the most emotional and significant events in people's lives, and immortalizing them requires not only great responsibility and mastery, but also creative flight. To determine the best wedding photographs of the past year, companies Nikon, Hewlett-Packard Eesti and Euronics invite all Latvian photographers to participate in an international contest Baltic Wedding Photo 2009. Entries will be evaluated by an international jury consisting of 5 industry specialists from the UK, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. Latvia was represented by Diena's chief editor and photographer with great experience Ilmārs Znotiņš.

Results

In any photo contest with a jury, results are influenced by luck - how well you manage to hit the jury's taste and value scale. In such contests you can often see generational taste differences, conflicts and various viewpoints. I have noticed, participating in various photo contests, that older generation photographers in the jury rate much higher those photos which they themselves couldn't shoot due to technical reasons several decades ago and pay less attention to creativity and idea, and also rate edited photos much lower than unedited ones. Whereas younger generation photographers pay more attention to the message and creativity in photos.
I didn't win the main prize, but received the title for the best photo from Latvia. A total of 298 photographs by 76 photographers were submitted to the contest. The most active contest participants were Estonians with 36 photographers and 176 photographs, followed by Latvia with 24 participants and 76 photographs, third place taken by 16 Lithuanian representatives with 46 photographs. An interesting fact is that my winning photo due to special circumstances is the most viewed photo of all ;)
As always I'm happy that various photo contests with jury presence happen, not SMS or own people voting contests. Thanks to organizers, jury and colleagues who were present. I recommend everyone to participate next year because the contest will take place in Latvia.

whose quality I would question; apparently many "creative" spirits have problems with constructive self-criticism and perception of reality. Nice that it really was not SMS smash-voting and that the best photos really are the best ones.

Looking at the photos that took part in the contest, I have to admit that the price of a wedding photographer in the range of 500-700 Ls is worth it, because even photos whose quality I would question are submitted to the contest.
