Nikon Lens Top 2008

Lightroom 2 offers a great opportunity to organize and group photos by metadata values, which helps see lots of data about the photo. Each photo also has information about which lens it was shot with. It seemed interesting to see which lenses I use most often in my shoots.

Statistics

Unfortunately in Lightroom I import only those photos that I process, but most are not imported. Unfortunately over the years the Lightroom library was moved to several computers and many months of statistics are missing. Also I shoot most actively advertising, then weddings, and then come my own projects along with reportages and photo sessions. Compiled statistics for 2008 for Nikon cameras.

Top

Place Lens Number of Photos*
1 Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8 10339
2 Nikon 17-35mm f/2.8 7189
3 Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 VR 4299
4 Nikon 105mm f/2.8 macro 1465
5 Nikon 85 f/1.4 937
6 Nikon 50 f/1.4 674
7 Sigma 12-24mm f/4.5-5.6 392
8 Nikon 28 f/1.4 298
9 Nikon 16 f/2.8 fisheye 209

* The number of photos is many times less than actually shot, because I import to Lightroom only those photos that I edit. Also several times the Lightroom library was transferred and deleted, so some months' statistics are missing.

Photos

In Lightroom this feature is hidden in the Library module in the Library Filter panel under Metadata just above the photo gallery.

Recommendations

In Lightroom there's also the ability to see for each lens at which millimeters or zoom position it is used most often. This way you can conclude with which prime lens you can replace a zoom lens. For example after shooting for several years, you can replace all zooms with primes, this way getting better quality.

Didn't find, where in Lightroom can one see statistics about with which focal length with the specific zoom lens the photo was taken..?

Andrej, is lens and lens the same? in lenses usually there are several lenses...

I don't think that frame count has any connection to lens quality or benefit. That mostly depends on the photographer's shooting style and conditions in which one needs to shoot. 24-70 generally for FF is like a standard. Relatively the same as 17-50 for crop.

24-70 and 28-70 rule :)

well not quite. simply very often operativeness and speed is needed. gladly would use primes everywhere, but often lack of time doesn't allow it. also nikon d3 allows to get good quality photos at iso 1600-3200 and with f/2.8 can calmly make do.

Immediately it's clear, about which lenses it's worth asking, and about which not :)
